Updated: Apr 23, 2021

When is the 1st Day of Summer Season in June 2021

The first day of the summer 2021 is on June 20th EDT and on 21st June UTC time. The summer time ends in September 22nd of 2021. The first day of summer begins on 21st of June at 3.43 UTC and on 20th June at 11.43 EDT. The season also witnesses the longest day of the year when earth receives sunlight for the maximum hours. The countries of Northern Hemisphere including the USA, the UK, Canada, and all European and Asian countries witness summer in June. However, the southern hemisphere has the first day of summer in the month of December.

The first day of summer season is also known as summer solstice. However, the summer season begins in many Asian countries in the month of May and reaches at its peak in June. But majority of countries including Europe get the summer days in June. The sunniest season begins around 20th to 24th June. The exact date and time varies every year. This year, the summer solstice 2021 happens on 20th June 2021.

Summer Solstice in Southern Hemisphere

The summer season begins in Southern Hemisphere on 21st or 22nd December 2021. This is the time when the Northern Hemisphere countries witness winter solstice. After summer solstice, the days are long and hot. The day length is the maximum and people love to travel and spend time on the beaches and colder regions.

As per astronomy, the solstices and equinoxes happen in the middle of the seasons. The summer solstice happens in the middle of the summer season. But sometimes, the first day of summer is at the start of the solstice. It is around 21st June and December in Northern and Souther Hemisphere respectively. It is difficult to say it universally as temperate differ in various parts of the world in the summer season. Temperate regions have the start of the season even before the June arrives.

Follow us on to check when is the next new moon calendar 2021. The full moon dates are also related to the equinoxes. We will be soon bringing more about spring equinox and autumnal equinoxes. The solstices and equinoxes are important astronomical phenomenon and have larger impact on the seasonal changes.
